The golden rule. The holy grail of business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;The customer is always right.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Really?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell that to the waiter who was blamed for the fish being &#8220;too fishy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or the tech support guy whose client complained that their laptop wouldn&#8217;t charge \u2014 because they&#8217;d plugged the cable into a <em>toaster<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spoiler: the customer was not right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let&#8217;s Get Real: Some Customers Are\u2026 a Lot<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Look, we love our customers. Most of them are lovely, patient, and respectful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then there are the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ones who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I want a refund because the &#8220;colour of the product changed under the moonlight.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demand a discount because &#8220;they&#8217;re an influencer&#8221; (with 83 followers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complain that your 24-hour response time took 26 hours \u2014 on a Sunday \u2014 during Diwali<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re all for service. But we&#8217;re not wizards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why This Rule Needs a Rewrite<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The customer is always right&#8221; is a cute phrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s kind of like, &#8220;I&#8217;ll just have one piece of cake&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;ll sleep early tonight.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It sounds good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it doesn&#8217;t hold up under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s why it&#8217;s outdated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It Throws Your Team Under the Bus<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You won&#8217;t have staff for very long if you expect them to smile through abuse. No one wants to deal with Karen at full volume over a mildly warm cappuccino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It Encourages Drama<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When people know they can get away with anything just by &#8220;asking for the manager&#8221;, they will. Welcome to Season 3 of <em>The Entitled Chronicles<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Not All Business Is Good Business<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone is costing you more peace than profit, it&#8217;s time to wish them well and send them to your competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A New Golden Rule: &#8220;The Right Customer Is Always Worth It&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s be honest \u2014 most customers are great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the truly right ones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Value your time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect your people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave Google reviews longer than three words<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And don&#8217;t ask for 17 revisions after approving the design<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Give these gems everything. Bend over backwards for them. Write them poems if you must.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just don&#8217;t waste your energy on people who think <em>&#8220;rules don&#8217;t apply to me.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>True Story Time<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A caf\u00e9 in Mumbai put up a sign:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;Unattended children will be given espresso and a puppy.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We approve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An e-commerce brand in Bangalore politely terminated a customer&#8217;s account after they returned 11 orders in 12 days. Their refund note?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;We love you. But this relationship is not working for us.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In Conclusion (Before You Ask for the Manager)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The customer is not always right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they do deserve honesty, effort, and a touch of humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because if we&#8217;re being real\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, the customer isn&#8217;t right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, the customer is your aunt trying to get you a &#8220;family discount.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And sometimes, the customer needs a nap.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Think the customer is always right?
